Anyone who has been studying and/or living The Craft will understand why we won't post much about spells on our website. For those that are annoyed at this here is why:
There is a lot you must understand about the craft before you get to the point of doing spells. At the very least you need to develop a relationship with a goddess, a god and the elements. And by develop a relationship I don't mean just knowing their names...I mean really getting to know them, and letting them get to know you. You need to have a very good understanding of energy including where it comes from, what it is, and what it can do. You need to understand the consequences of each possible magical act. You need to know how to divine what those possible outcomes can be.
Before doing a spell you need to be very, very sure that you should be doing the spell at all. You need to be very sure that there is not some other more appropriate action that you could take.
Before you do a spell you need to know the purpose of each ingredient, word, and action in the spell. You need to know what the consequences of changing any part of the spell would be.
Sure you can find websites and books full of spells. You can try these spells and maybe they will have the desired results and maybe they won't. An important thing to realize though is traditionally, witches do not ask strangers for spells. When you do, you come off sounding at best a little naive, and at worst like a complete fool - especially those who insist that, Of course all witches should help each other with any information they have. Wrong. Traditionally trained witches understand the training that needs to come before spell working and they don't need that kind of help. And even more importantly, they are ethically obligated to not give information out to anyone whom they do not know personally, and can not trust to use the information correctly.
Traditionally, a witch trains from the ground up. First learning the history of the craft and of his or her chosen pantheon of gods, then going on to develop those relationships mentioned earlier, and going further to learn about all the possible steps and ingredients which could be included in a spell. By the time a witch understands all that needs to be understood about spells he or she can write spells for themselves. They don't need to ask.
I hope this clarifies. Thank you for reading this page.
What are spells?
Spells are a witch's way of praying, a way to make needed changes in our lives. Spells send our wishes and thoughts out into the universe, by our faith, our spells work and what we need is supplied. We do not pray the way other religions pray by petitioning a god and begging for help. We connect with the spirit and divinity within ourselves and use this power to obtain our desires.
Before you think of casting any spells think before you act. You will pay for the consequences of all your actions. If you try baneful magic (harmful magic) the results will come back to you three times over. If you have the intent to manipulate anyone against his or her free will this is negative. Even good intentions can be baneful if they go against the free will of another person. Love spells, spells to get revenge, spells to gain power are all considered baneful. Even if you want to help heal someone you must have his or her permission. Be careful how you word a spell and always ask that it work only if it is for the good of all.
I get many requests for spells, mostly from young people that have just discovered witchcraft. I don't want to discourage them from searching and traveling their spiritual path, but I will not give out spells. I try to be polite and explain that spells are a form of prayer, giving out the words I use would not help them anyway. I would be glad to recommend some books or web sites where they can learn about Wicca and so develop their own spells but usually they want a shortcut. Just send the recipe, no work involved at all on their part. They don't understand yet, that if you can't make your own spells then someone else's won't work either.
