The Moon is a very powerful influence in our lives and is often taken for granted. The Moon rules emotions, nuturing, the home, and our Mothers. These are all very significant areas of our lives. Apart from understanding the placement of our own Moon and its sign in our natal astrology chart, the Moons daily movement through the astological signs and its phases can be very helpful in understanding the events in our lives and our ability to plan. In Ancient time, the moon was depended upon heavily for events such as planting, harvesting, hunting and fishing. A womans natural cycle coincides with the moons 29 day cycle. Women were feared in ancient times because of this.

 

 

The Moon changes from new to full and back to new again during one lunar cycle. When the new moon is headed back to full, it is referred to as a waxing moon. When the full moon has been reached and is head back to new, it is referred to as a waning moon.

During this 29.5 day cycle, there are eight phases:

New Moon Keyword: "Emergence"  It is the beginning of a completely new experience. This phase can be unsettling due to a feeling of not having direction. During a new moon, energy is unclear. This is a highly creative and suggestive period. Take care to think and speak of only what you wish to create during this period.

Crescent Moon. Keyword: "Assertion"  Thoughts begin to clear and an impulse to take action and create. This is a good time to gather information and make plans.

1st Quarter Moon. Keyword: "Action"  There is a need to take action and manifest on the physical plane. Although complete clarity is not yet available, there is an instinctive knowing of what must be done.

Gibbous Moon. Keyword: "Expression"  There is a need to interact with society and to contribute. This also is a good time to pursue a new career, course of study or new venture.

Full Moon. Keyword: "Fulfillment"  This is a time of completion. What was only partially understood before now becomes clear and illuminated. Our goals are realized. It is time to rest.

Disseminating Moon. Keyword: "Sythesis"  There is a new experience created by the full moon. Follow thru is key to ultimate manifestation.

3rd Quarter Moon. Keyword: "Reorientation"  Now is when we find out how well our creations fit into the real world. Adjustments or changes can be applied during the next cycle.

Balsamic Moon. Keyword: "Release"  This is a time of low energy, used wisely and not fought a time of release and letting go.

 

 

Esbats are full moons. Each full moon has it's own name,
with a few special additional names. They are as follows:

January: Wolf moon
February: Storm moon
March: Chaste moon
April: Seed moon
May: Hare moon
June: Dyad (pair) moon
July: Mead moon
August: Wyrt (green plant) moon
September: Barley moon
October: Blood moon
November: Snow moon
December: Oak moon
